How To Check Facts and Requirements
All CopyPress creatives are expected to provide quality content that aligns with the project requirements and is free of errors. Failure to do so could result in termination or a lower grade that may lead to fewer project assignments. Read the guidelines below to help you understand what expectations we have for accuracy and relevance.
Check the Requirements
Always make sure that the content includes all of the requirements of the assignment style guide and instructions. This includes checking to make sure the article doesn’t include anything that is restricted in accordance with the style guide/brief. Clients usually have specific requirements for:
- Word count: Number of words for the entire assignment
- Graphic use: Number of images, size of images, placement of images, specific attribution
- Keywords: Number of keywords, placement of keywords
- Linking: Keywords to link, inbound or outbound linking restrictions/requests, number of links
- Formatting: Subheading use, font formatting
- Taboo topics: Competitors to not mention, topics/terms to avoid
Check the Facts
Ensure that the data, facts, stats and quotes are all entirely accurate. At CopyPress, we use the acronym NORT to check for quality data. That means the information is:
- N: Not from a competitor
- O: Originally sourced (i.e. not sourced to someone quoting a research paper, but sourced to the actual research paper)
- R: Recent information that was collected in the last 1-2 years
- T: Trustworthy and comes from an official or authoritative source in the industry
Check the Proper Nouns
If a proper name, place or thing is unfamiliar to you, search for the term to make sure it is spelled, capitalized and referenced correctly
Check the Links
Open up each link and make sure:
- The link opens to the correct page
- The anchor text is an accurate reference to the linked page (the anchor text isn’t misleading and the link opens to a page that seems natural with the context of the anchor text)
- The link does not lead to a competitor's site
- The links do not lead to the same page more than once in an article
Check the Images
Unless otherwise specified, all content will require at least one properly attributed image. Make sure all images are added and sourced correctly.
